Second edit ever. Ran into some serious difficulties with a slightly lower resolution source file. Consulted 4chan, and this is best I can do in paint.net. I'll try to revise this in Photoshop latter.

Returning to the 1700 pixel tall version, the problems all smooth out again. I think I nailed this one first try!
